The Frisian is a horse breed originating in the Dutch part of Friesland. Although the appearance of the breed resembles that of a light draught horse, the Frisians are graceful and agile in their size. It is assumed that in the Middle Ages the ancestors of the Frisian horse were in great demand as war horses throughout continental Europe.
